PE & Sports Premium

What is PE and Sports Premium?

Primary PE and Sport Premium is an initiative that aims to help increase and improve the PE and sporting opportunities for children. It was first provided in the 2013/14 academic year. The funding is provided jointly by the Department for Education, the Department for Health and Culture and the Department for Media and Sport. The funding is ring-fenced which means that it can only be spent on the provision of PE and sport in schools.

Like all primary schools across the country, Foxdell  Primary receives the Sports Premium grant to improve the provision of PE and Sport within our schools and to develop and encourage healthy lifestyles.

The funding is being used to continue to support improvements to the provision for PE and sport and encourage the development of healthy lifestyles. Investments have been made in improving infrastructure, equipment, and for the provision of specialist support.

Across the primary we offer a wide range of sports for the children to participate in, and every child from Reception to Year 6 is timetabled to take part in at least two PE sessions per week. The Sports Premium grant allows teachers to develop their own practice by working alongside sports coaches and PE specialist teachers in delivering high quality PE lessons.

In Reception and Key Stage 1, children have daily access to outdoor areas designed to promote physical development and exercise. In KS2, pupils regularly take part in sports matches, tournaments and competitions, both during the school day and after school. We also provide a variety of after school clubs to support the children in their physical fitness and activity levels. "

.

Some ways in which we have used this funding are:

  • Staff development including the role of the Subject Leader
  • Improved PE & Sport resources
  • Raising children’s  participation levels within curricular and extra-curricular activities including intra & inter competition
  • Improved knowledge; skills and understanding related to health and fitness
  • Increased learning opportunities associated with healthy diet and nutrition through workshops and visitors
