We are very pleased to tell you that you and your Eco-Committee at Foxdell Primary School have been successful in meeting the requirements for the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award.

We reviewed your application and noted the following:

You have a very large Eco-Committee supported by 4 adults. This clearly demonstrates both students and staff members in your school are committed to environmental education and youth-led eco-actions. Thank you for sharing your meeting minutes with the Eco-Schools’ Team. They really helped to provide an insight into your Eco-Schools’ work, and the dynamics of your pupil-led Eco-Committee and it was great to see that all classes have been given an opportunity to get involved in your Eco-Warriors work! Your Environmental Review is packed with comments, and this is exactly what our team enjoys seeing. It’s clear that completing it provided your Eco-Committee with plenty of ideas for creating an impactful Action Plan. You did a great job at detailing both current and future plans for each section of the Environmental Review and how your Eco-Warriors can consider tackling any issues raised, especially the shared goal of contacting your local MP and council regarding factory fumes near your Junior site. We’d have loved to see a little more detail in your Action Plan, particularly the monitoring and evaluation. When used properly this document can really add clarity and focus to your Eco-Schools’ work creating a roadmap for sustainability. Organising a whole-school environmental day of learning is a great way to instil a sense of collective responsibility. It sounds like it was a brilliant day of unplugged learning. The three curriculum examples provided are great examples of environmental education, they are practical and fun with a real-life context that is very relevant to pupils in your school. It is evident that a lot of planning and commitment was involved with these plans, especially when considering aspects such as your litter timetable for the whole school. Your Eco-Warriors have used an impressive variety of methods to promote sustainability and keep their school community informed about their Eco-Schools’ initiatives throughout the academic year. We really like how your Eco-Warriors’ used their school newsletter to involve the broader school community in their environmental initiatives, sharing their expertise and encouraging schoolmates and their families to live more sustainably. Your Eco-Schools work has made a significant impact on all pupils and staff at your school. This is a massive achievement! Your Eco-Schools noticeboard looks fantastic, with lots of data and personalisation demonstrating the positive impacts you and your Eco-Warriors have created. You state that the most significant success of your Eco-Schools’ work was your variety of activities to improve the school grounds, such as LED lighting at your Infant site as well as wormeries across both sites, and we agree that this is a phenomenal achievement! Although accidental, thank you so much for applying for our School Grounds Topic Award. Your application will be carefully considered given the fantastic evidence you have provided, and winners announced in the next academic year! Your main challenge is one that anyone who works in an education setting is familiar with, lack of time! However, rather than giving up, you consistently strive to make a positive impact and that’s truly inspiring. Your Eco-Code is beautifully designed, with clear goals that relate to your achievements and future aspirations. It’s a great manifestation of your values and accomplishments! Throughout your application, you have consistently demonstrated a whole-school commitment to youth-led environmental action. As a result, we are delighted to recognize your brilliant work with an Eco-Schools’ Green Flag with Distinction.
